About Us

What does the La Trobe French Club do?
We are lovers of all things French and francophone! Food, film, culture, wine, language, music, tout en effet. We organise a range of social, cultural and educational events that promote French language and culture.

Do I need to speak French to join French Club?
Not at all! Although members of the club are often students of French, you need only have a love of French culture to join. You don't even have to be a student of La Trobe University to come along!

How can I get involved?
Simply come along to any of our forthcoming events! During the semester we run French Talk - regular French conversation sessions.  Submit your ideas for events and activities via our Facebook page.
Vive le monde francophone

Who is the French Club?
The French Club is run by an elected committee comprised of assorted French-loving La Trobe students, along with our staff advisor. But we are everyone who comes along to our meetings or otherwise gets involved!

Elections are held in our Annual General Meeting. Read all about the current office holders on the “Committee” page.

What if I'm natively Francophone?
On accueille tout le monde, y compris les francophones. Nos événements visent principalement les étudiants du français mais il y a des autres événements culturels qui pourrait vous intéresser. De plus si vous aviez des questions sur quoi que ce soit, il possible qu'on peut vous aider.

Do you (help) organise tours for schools?
We have helped arrange visits for school French classes at La Trobe University previously (most recently in 2017).  Contact us on Facebook or call/email the La Trobe University French department if you are interested.

Potentially a school tour may involve: a university class visitation; a session with a teacher on what studying French at university involves; a tour in French of the buildings and grounds; as well as things like a movie, or a French treasure hunt. It depends on what you want, how well schedules align, on coordination with the rest of the university and on the availabilities of the Club committee.
